Warby Parker Blinding Inspiration

dlevitt-sun-aya-kanai

Warby Parker isn’t one man, it’s actually a collaboration of four close friends who together have found a way to make unique, affordable, glasses for the masses, all the while paying it forward with a pair to those in need for each pair purchased. By partnering with non-profits such as Vision Spring they can ensure a great service to the billion people worldwide that without glasses are unable to learn or work to the best of their ability.

With the amazing styles they have designed and the reasonable prices I am no longer scared to make the eye appointment because if, in fact, I do need them, I know where to go.

Isn’t That The Truth

mailLoving my new purchase! Such a simple book and a great start to everyday or soother for stressful times. Every page has a simple quote point out the obvious, Shit Happens so Get Over It. As simple as….

“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself” – George Bernard Shaw

“Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not” – Epicurus

“Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm” – Winston Churchill

“Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors” – African Proverb

Last Chance Shop Stops

If you’re in the area and you haven’t heard about the Brooklyn Night Bazaar yet, then your missing out! With over 100  independent vendors, delicious food, and live music it’s a holiday market Brooklyn style!

Market41-e1324866018194 The range of gift giving you could do here is outstanding. Intricate designs, art, graphic tees, furniture, jewelry, clothingaccessories, and much, much more. I truly enjoyed making an evening of it at the bazar. Although I only ended up with treats for myself. Bacon wrapped scallops, avocado fries, and beautiful feather hair piece.

Jon-Gordon-2012_11_24_Brooklyn_Knights_069-e1354676244585Beyond the bazaar this season I also found some great vendors at the many NYC pop up shops! Check them out for some great gifts for your family, friends, or yourself!

Better Safe Than Sorry

(Archival Clothing -$220)

I consider myself an extremely lucky New Yorker after the devastation that was caused by Sandy over the last few days. My heart goes out to  all that were affected by her and a large thank you to those helping to bring life back to normal.

As I packed my emergency bag I realized that I am definitely not as prepared as I should be for (cross my fingers) mother nature’s next hit. Luckily, The Inside Source  can lead you in the right direction, eBay has great pre-made 72-hour survival kits. And for $52 it’s worth it! If you’re one of those folks who thinks everything is better when you do it yourself, then just use this kit as a guide to create your own! I guarantee there is something you never even thought of! The Inside Source also suggests starting your kit with a reliable bag by Archival (made from used waxed fabrics).

Like mama always said “better to be safe than sorry”. So the least you can do is a little preparation. Stay Safe.

Uncommon Goodies

Scratch Map-Strach off all the places you’ve been. $24

Between weddings, showers, and birthdays I am always trying to search for a gift that is unique to that special someone. And most the time it ends up being a homeade gift, cash, or something from the registry, which no one would complain about. In fact they probably prefer. But, if you’re like me, and you still strive to step out of the box hoping to give the gift that they never knew they needed but its exactly what they want….well then, Uncommon Goods is a great site for you.

Face Mug- So cool it wasn’t even on the registry. $18

Wearing Paper, Hoses, and TVs

When it comes to the debate of pleather vs leather and the energy, chemicals, waste, emissions, and cruelty they use to make our favorite products, it just might be easier to shift your window shopping to a whole new alternative. Below are some great alternative products so you can shop happy and leave the debates to Obama and Romney.

Elvis & Kresse make beautiful products from de-commissioned British fire brigade hoses.

Olsenhaus use a combination of recycled TV Screen & microfibers to create their shoes.

Paper No.9 products are made of recycled paper with oil and fabric backing to give the weathered leather look.

Let It Rain!

( image via be merey kate )

I must say, I do enjoy a summer storm. The warm air, and cool breeze, the refreshing smell, and if your lucky… beautiful lightning, and the low rumbles and cracks of loud thunder. When in the right mood, the spontaneous nature of a storm brings out a free spirit in me. I hold some great memories of thunderstorm adventures and I know, I’m not alone, when I say, there is nothing better than playing in the rain.

But say you’re not in the mood to play, check out some playful gear I found for the rainy days.  Continue reading
