Just Go: San Juan, Puerto Rico

good bye resort

You don’t realize how much you need a vacation until you actually go on one. This will be my first time staying in San Juan and even better, staying at a resort! And to think I liked roughing it. A girl could get used to this kind of life. P1010258 P1010726P1010251El San Juan Resort & Casino was everything we heard it would be and more! Well worth it, especially if you can hold out for a deal. Between the pool bar, beach, and surrounding local restaurants I had no complaints.

Career Break

Dreaming of a trip of a lifetime, a break from your comfort zone, or an education beyond what a classroom could ever give you, then, GO!  Meet Plan Go is leading the career break movement in north america and I couldn’t be happier to have their support. Last night I attended their inspirational event set in the ballroom of NYC Hostelling International. It was comforting to be surrounded by others with the same dream. Every topic you can imagine was covered between the panel, Q&A, and group sessions. I came home fully motivated to continue my research on the road less traveled. If experiencing the world for an extended period of time is calling you, but you need a guidance, then enroll in their Boot Camp.

Reasons to be a Nomad

Two months ago I decided to send almost all my belongings back to my parents home and  spend the summer as a nomad throughout New York City. The concept seemed outrageous to most of my friends and most wondered why I would choose to do this. But after 2 months into the adventure they have all come to understand a little better why one and I think enjoy having me around. With various reasons I convinced them. Maybe it’s in your best interest to be a nomad too!

- You realize for a certain time span you won’t be lounging much and more or less on the go. You basically need a place to lay your head and shower.

- You haven’t been able to visit with friends or spend time with them and this provides time to spend with each other.

- Or the opposite, your friends won’t be around but yet, they will need a house sitter.

- Both of you need a helping hand. Whether its lending an ear, ones company, labor, or helping save money, being a temporary nomad could benefit everyone.

If this is an idea your playing with and your friends are entertaining the thought, then go for it! Just make sure to respect their rules and space, keep their home clean or cleaner then it was, and thank them in whatever way works best for them. Make it so they want you to come back and you could be a nomad for life!

Tory Time

When I walked through the doors of the TORY BURCH offices for the first time, I was in awe of the colors, energy, and the fun chicness the decor emulated. Today I would be introduced to Tori herself. Already hearing great things about her, I was excited to form my own opinion. Being presented as a potential fit model it always a sensitive and intimate meet n greet with the designers.

Go Fish

My first true experience fishing was so much more than I expected and something everyone should try once in their lifetime. Up at 5AM, on the water for sunrise, and my first Sea Bass by 7:30AM, I felt a live! For the first time I saw fishing in a whole new light. As an art, a sport, and a beautiful way to relax. By end of day I had learned a lot and was completely satisfied with the effort I had put into the day and the aches muscles that followed the next morning.

Skip Town

Our weekend getaway was a last-minute fleet. Not a decision was made until we were sitting in the car ready to go. What we had in common was a need to get away from our everyday. For us, it had to be outside the city limits! Sometimes planning just gets in the way. It’s simple. Find a friend. Agree on the mood of the getaway. Pick a direction. Pack lightly with multi purpose outfits. And GO!

What direction would you go!?  Look where we ended up….

Purge & Pack

(image from note to sarah)

For the past few days I have purging and packing up my west village apartment. As sad, annoying, or stressful a move can be, I always look forward to being forced to weed through all my belongings and just let go of everything I don’t need. I have done this so many times I have developed a system to this madness.

LABELS FOR APT MOVE

1.KEEP-Break it down to the basics. Separate into seasons. Put current season into cardboard boxes.

2. STORAGE-Invest in some plastic. Making it all easy to carry.

3.SELL -Months before move out start selling on ebay, etsy, craigslist. These are the things of some value. That you are having a hard time letting go but could go for it if it ment cash.

4.RECYCLE-Weeks before move out look into recycling for money or just because you care about mother earth (magazines, electronics)

5.GIVE GIFTS-Think of friends and give away what you think they will like. Even though it’s pre owned a random gift will always get you smile.

6.GIVE AWAY-Week before advertise on (craigslist & facebook) big items picked up are FREE. Leaving all the heavy lifting to someone else.

Few days before the move mention to neighbors, friends, and craigslist on yard sale that everything left in your apartment must go. It’s the weirdest feeling watching people come in and just walk out with your stuff but it helps someone out and leaves you with little to no to donate/trash. My suggestion is, do it with a few friends so its fun and safe.

Do you have a system? Now back to packing…
