AM Light

I consider myself a morning person, but most the time I’m just up, not out of bed. The days when I actually take the time to enjoy my breakfast outside, go for an am run, or take a longer walk to work I am in a great mood! So why don’t I do it everyday?

According to the article I read in Yoga Journal AM light is doing exactly that…It helps fight depression, insomnia, cognitive slowdown, and other aging related illnesses. With as little as 20 minutes of morning glory a day you can see results. It’s the blue-spectrum in morning sunlight that helps syncs your body to your brain’s internal clock. So whether your a morning person or not roll out of bed and soak up the sun early!

Purge & Pack

(image from note to sarah)

For the past few days I have purging and packing up my west village apartment. As sad, annoying, or stressful a move can be, I always look forward to being forced to weed through all my belongings and just let go of everything I don’t need. I have done this so many times I have developed a system to this madness.

LABELS FOR APT MOVE

1.KEEP-Break it down to the basics. Separate into seasons. Put current season into cardboard boxes.

2. STORAGE-Invest in some plastic. Making it all easy to carry.

3.SELL -Months before move out start selling on ebay, etsy, craigslist. These are the things of some value. That you are having a hard time letting go but could go for it if it ment cash.

4.RECYCLE-Weeks before move out look into recycling for money or just because you care about mother earth (magazines, electronics)

5.GIVE GIFTS-Think of friends and give away what you think they will like. Even though it’s pre owned a random gift will always get you smile.

6.GIVE AWAY-Week before advertise on (craigslist & facebook) big items picked up are FREE. Leaving all the heavy lifting to someone else.

Few days before the move mention to neighbors, friends, and craigslist on yard sale that everything left in your apartment must go. It’s the weirdest feeling watching people come in and just walk out with your stuff but it helps someone out and leaves you with little to no to donate/trash. My suggestion is, do it with a few friends so its fun and safe.

Do you have a system? Now back to packing…

Bold & Your Beautiful

Go BOLD this summer or go home. While on vacation in Delaware I stopped in South Moon Under. Not only one of the best shops in town but also somewhere I use to work while living it up at the beach. I knew there would be some great picks and I would greatly miss my employee discount. These are some of my favorite statements pieces they have on their racks this season. And as much as you love em, I advise not wearing them all together.

1. House of Harlow Cushion Cocktail Ring $65 2. Ark & Co. Rainbow Shorts $56 3. Sandy Hyun Small Lucite Chevron Teardrop Earring $45 4. Billabong Bohemian Summer Bandeau Bikini $72.50 5. Trina Turk Bali Plunging V-Neck One Piece Swimsuit $158 6. Flying Tomato Scarf Print Pants $64 7. Karma Kreations Multi-Colored Striped Border Scarf $28 8. Loveappella Criss Cross Striped Top $39.99

Sometimes when you focus on the end result you become overwhelmed by the goal, you create doubts that the day will never come, and in the end, you self sabotage an achievable dream. But, if you take the time to focus on the steps that will take you there, they become quite simple. First step is to make that decision to TRY.

Once your heart is set on this decision it becomes an accomplishment in itself. Your doubts and fears will continue and should be recognized, but they will be wrapped in a warm feeling that you have already started your journey by making the first decision.

Roll On

My saving grace, the poor mans personal masseuse, the reason I made it past many finish lines, and now my personal trainer, ladies and gentlemen, the Foam Roller. If you want to improve on sore muscles, flexibility, range of motion, balance, or stretching (if you haven’t already) go out and buy one today! If your still don’t think it’s worth the money then try a large diameter PVC pipe, squash balls, tennis balls, or even a Nalgene type water bottle wrapped in a towel. But I promise you, will be much happier with the foam.

Read on how to use the foam roller!

Farm to Family

If your anything like me and you love your food trucks then you will love the idea Farm to Family bus! This mobile farmers market brings seasonal and locally grown produce, meat, and milk to the urban areas of Richmond, VA and Washington, DC. They also educate people about food security. I really hope that others catch onto this great and much-needed idea! But until then, lets help support the Bus Farm Non-Profit sector, so they can continue to grow and and word spreads ….

Important Question

Recently this question has come to me in many different capacities and every time I find myself taking the time to really think about it. Even when I have repeated the question to my friends my thought process starts all over again. In most cases their first response is “I don’t know” followed by “that’s a tough question” and it is! But none-the-less we should find the time to answer it. There is no one answer, that I am sure, but if you find yourself repeating one idea over and over, recognize it and look into the possibilities. And hopefully one day you can put your fear aside and go for it.

Family Vacation

Heading to the beach with family is always something to look forward to and if your anything like me it’s a great excuse to buy yet another swimsuit!   To avoid feeling guilty about your purchases create a reasonable to cheap wish list for your up coming vacation.  Like mine…

Above: Stay hydrated with these beautiful (1) Glass Water Bottles from BKR. Made with a silicon sleeve to protect the glass, these bottles allow you to enjoy a large gulp of water with a clean taste. (2) Sunglasses  are like umbrellas. I love them and need them but usually break or lose them. So go cheap with Forever 21. No wrinkles for me with a (3) Floppy Sun Hat from GAP. Cover up in style with a KID IN DA BOX (4) Graphic T. H & M make up some of my favorite mix and match swim suits, like this one (5) Bikini Bottom .

Tribal Scarf from Target, essential to my over all look and keeping my hair off my face for a little sun time. Going to the beach with my fam is all business. And tanning is the biz. I will sacrifice my perfect tan lines for this (2) American Apparel Swimsuit. Yet again, another cheap pair (3) Sunglasses from Forever 21, because I’m counting on losing the first pair. Some simple canvas (4) Slip-On Sneakers from Urban Outfitters for all activities beach related. All beach vacation need a good read (5) The Book “The Artist’s Way” has been recommended to me on several occasions and I excited to dive in. A cool H&M (6) Bag. How else are you going to carry all this stuff around?

What products will you be buying for your next vaca?
