Perfect Match

New York City is known for its shopping, in stores and on the streets. It was on the streets in soho, that I first caught a glimpse of Alexandre Sazonov, Match Book Art. Instantly I loved it!  I do love collecting matches, but one of his pieces would bring my collection to a whole new level!

The story goes …. He was waiting for a friend and decided to do a little sketching while he waits. Only thing on him was a match book! So he worked with what he had and look at what it became.

Now he features his miniature art and prints in his Brooklyn store and his art hangs in the homes of some popular peeps, such as, Alanis Morissette, Tori Spelling, Macaulay Culkin, Marilyn Manson, and many others.

Which style should I go for? All of them? That’s what I’m thinking.

Tea Time with David

I have visited my share of coffee shops lately. My schedule allows me to explore the world of afternoon caffeine retreats, but when I discovered DAVIDs TEA I had to tell the coffee shops it’s not them it’s me. I had to move onto something new. TEA.  I consider myself a very lucky gal to have one of the only DAVIDs TEA in the U.S. a few blocks away!

I’m not writing this to brag, I’m writing in hopes that they will expand beyond their Canadian walls so more of us can enjoy all he has to offer. The knowledge of the employees, the education and time they provide to you, and the environment, are a few of the reasons I love this place.

The experience:  As you walk in the space is brightly lit, open, and clean. You’re greeted by one of the friendly employees who always offers you a free sample followed up by asking “how do you feel today”. Isn’t it so nice for them to ask!? Then you can just let it all out…tierd, sad, fruity, sexy… I wonder if anyone has ever dropped “sexy” before. I’m sure even if you did, they would have a tea option for you! At that point they would pull a variety of teas and while you take a whiff of the aroma they would describe to you the ingredients.

You can take the tea to go, or sit down at the table and couches with a tea set for some quite time or a social gathering. If you decide you want to make DAVIDs on your own than shop away. Plenty of tea pots/cups and flavors for even the mad hatter to go crazy.

Bird is the Word

This spring we have watched our feather obsession evolve into a big BIRD obsession. Straight up birds everywhere! Fortunately, I am a huge fan, and the attack of the bird print suits me just fine. In the April issue of VOGUE UK they place Sienna Miller among them brining to life the prints we will see flocking all around us this spring.

Need some convincing that this bold print is doable in your wardrobe….

From the runway to you… in all price ranges… and all silhouettes… it will fly.

DIY Word Bubbles

Word bubbles have been around for a long time… comics, scrap booking, and now your photos. This weekend I had the pleasure of throwing my dear friend a superhero party. My goal was to make a comic book come alive. With a lil BAM, POW, BANG added to the mix it was a true success. Word Bubbles work with any occasion. Birthdays, Baby Showers, Retirement Parties, Weddings … You name it, someone always has something to say. So put the words in their mouths for them.

What you need: Cardboard, Marker, Scissors, Paint, Paint Brush, Tape.

Step One: Draw it. Cut it. Cut a strip for handle.       Step Two: Paint it the background.  Step Three: Paint your words.                          Step Four: Tape a handle.

Final Product: Your very own comic strip.

Time for Change

You know those days when you wonder where all your money has gone. Well don’t kid yourself, most of us toss it away for no reason. My suggestion, and todays budget tip, make a change jar part of your decor. Making one central place for all your change to end up. Quickly, by the time your jar is full (depending on the size, of course) you will be able to buy yourself a treat, dress, or possibly even a flight. It really does add up.

Tip: Place the jar, vase, or bottle in a place that is visibly appealing, functional, and easy to get to. This way you will automatically dump your pockets without thinking, then cha ching!

The People In Purple

The people in purple could actually be the answer to many speed bumps in your life. They get you in shape and train you to reach unbelievable goals. They introduce you to new friends and they could even introduce you to your future husband. They motivate you to do good for others, and ultimately through the money that’s raised, they save lives. It’s crazy not to consider joining when you put it that way, right?

I am talking about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s TEAM IN TRAINING . Recently I had the pleasure of styling and working as the make up artist for the new TEAM IN TRAINING promotional video. Throughout the week we interviewed coaches, mentors, and team members. Thier stories all different, but yet all inspired me to get back to it! Almost every city has a chapter and for your life, and others, you should at least check it out!

Always Signs

After six years working in the fashion industry as a Designer, Colorist, and Fit Model for Elie Tahari it came time for a lot of changes in the company. One change that didn’t include me. There were signs that I noticed leading up to my last day of work. There are always signs.

A few days before my last day…. Lilou Mace’s Book “I lost my job and I liked it” fell into my lap. Something in me told me I should start reading it. So I did and ever since then whenever I pick it up I am freaked out by the fact that I am always in the same mindset she is at that exact chapter. Even if you haven’t lost your job but you want motivation to pursue your dreams, I suggest you let this book fall in your lap too! BAM! It just did…
